Ramana maharshi suggested to know thyself by self enquiry. Sri satya sai baba said "know thyself, because every thing is in you. nothing from outside, outside universe is in you in a miniature form" Socrates quoted to know thyself by enquiry and questions. Meher baba indicated to remove the veil between you and the God by knowing yourself. In order to truly know ourselves we must come to understand our own mind. To do this requires self observation. Human awareness is created by thoughts and the consciousness of the observer affects that of which is being observed. To understand the psyche you have to become a good observer of the self. Observation is science. This does not mean to analyze ourselves or to label ourselves but just begin paying attention. To do this requires tools, practice and commitment. Mindfulness meditation for example teaches you to just simply be with what is and to not attach to what is. We must become conscious about what we say, think and do if we truly wish to see change in our world. As long as individuals are reacting out of old unconscious limited perceptions of self and projecting that out into the world there will continue to be problems. Limited views breed limited views. We need to get expansive and begin seeing and looking for our potential rather than to our limitations. Problems in our lives can be used as indicators which lead straight towards core emotional issues. To get free from these the person needs to understand how they were formed and this requires observation and inquiry. A shift in one's perception can change one's entire view of the world. Pain and suffering need to be honored, grieved so that healing can occur. This is an individual and a global need. Isn't it time to be responsible for our role in the problems in the world. We can't have peace if everyone is still at war inwardly with themselves.
